Noticing what is good and saying it

What appreciation does for you that you didn’t notice

One of the features of coaching is this opportunity to have a tripartite: your leader attends one session with you and your coach/ thinking partner and listens with deep attention to what you want your coaching programme to mean for you and ideally what you’d like to accomplish over a few months.

In this moment, which is not a conversation but rather a Thinking Partnership, the thinkers are not interrupted. It allows for the shape and the heart of the relationship to reveal themselves.

Sometimes, it’s true, the pulse is weak. The leader hurts so much they are not fully present for you. And there are many reasons for that.

But there are also brilliant moments where souls awaken and become even more alive.

This is my question to the leader:

“What are you appreciating in this person here that tells you already that they will accomplish their desired outcome and not just that?”

And in that moment, you hear yourself reflected, not as a problem to be fixed or solved, but as a human who has already sown the essential.

This question asks the leader to see the seeds and the nutrients that are already there, before anything has been “proven” or “evaluated” (if we really have to go down that route).

Everybody blossoms.
